CAMBERLEY, England, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
With so much choice when it comes to planning a wedding and with an industry worth in excess of £10 billion, it's no wonder that couples spend so long saving in order to create the perfect day. However, interesting stats revealed by the UK's most popular wedding website hitched.co.uk show that the total wedding spend for weddings in 2013 was actually at its lowest level in four years.
The overall wedding spend in the UK may be dropping due to couples getting better value for money; wedding venues featuring special offers, wedding photographers providing a package price, or getting creative when it comes to wedding cakes and décor are just a few examples of how couples might be spending less. But, with the entire UK wedding budget coming in at an average of £15,494 for 2013, couples spent just over 20% of their budget on a once in a lifetime honeymoon (£3111), 12% more than couples spent on their honeymoon in 2012.
The majority of couples (29%) chose to spend their honeymoon in Europe/Mediterranean or Eastern Europe and a romantic beach style of honeymoon remains the most popular (38%) for the fourth year running.
Francesca Cribb, site editor of hitched.co.uk quoted, "With so many incredible destinations on offer around the world, it doesn't surprise me that wedding planning couples are choosing to spend more money on this once in a lifetime holiday."
When surveyed, over a third (32.4%) of couples who got married in 2013 created a honeymoon contribution style wedding gift list, allowing them to experience the trip of their dreams.
