'True Bearing' Financial Planners Unveil Consumer Attitudes Towards Sustainable Investment
LONDON, October 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
Crucial market survey illustrates current truth behind consumer interest in ESG investments
True Bearing Chartered Financial Planners have released the results of an eye opening survey into the current consumer attitude towards ESG (Environmental, Social and Good Corporate Governance) and sustainable investments.
Commissioned by 'Pennine Wealth Solutions', the aim of the survey was to gain an accurate, up to date understanding of the opinions of consumers, when it came to investment attitudes. The survey was designed following IFA's claiming less than 10% of their investors are interested in considering ESG options. Despite this, survey results indicated 70% of the public would invest in ESG options.
Responsible for the management of funds worth billions of pounds annually, IFAs play a critical role in influencing the market and True Bearing understand that positive shifts influenced by IFAs can have significant impacts to world challenges. Statistically the current ESG investment market reflects a very small 3%. The question is why the attitudes appear to contrast with current figures?
The survey was designed around 9 questions and 167 investors were invited to respond. Of these, 72 (43.1%) responded. The survey results illustrated that 76% of those that responded explicitly wanted their investments to have a positive impacts and avoid damaging effects. Assuming those that did not respond were not interested in ESGs, the survey suggests that 32.9% of the investing public want to invest in positive funds.
True Bearing Chairman, George Critchley commented: "Both the potential investment gains and good social or environmental benefits make ESG investing mainstream in 2017. As a father of three children and grandfather of five young grandchildren, my mind is focussed. Together with our clients we will do our bit to help our planet."
With 32.9% wanting to invest in ESG/sustainable investments, why do actual investments total only 3%? Using the survey results, the 3% of total UK assets managed should increase many times over. These figures suggest that IFA's are missing out on a large market share, of those keen to take up ESG investments.
The survey asked the investors if there was a perceived greater risk when thinking about ESG investments. However the majority stated this was not the case. Put simply, if their IFA adviser made it easy and straightforward for them, they would invest at least some of their monies in a positive manner.
True Bearing believe that the results show with a degree of certainty, that a change has taken place in the attitudes towards positive and responsible investments. Positive investing solutions are now a part of the everyday market process.
