Totally Wicked Rejects Allegation of Marketing E-Cigarettes to Under 18s
LONDON, January 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Totally Wicked today expressed its surprise and disappointment that Cancer Research UK has declined to correct an allegation in a recent report published by it, The marketing of electronic cigarettes in the UK, that Totally Wicked is promoting electronic cigarettes and related products to under eighteens.
Fraser Cropper, managing director of Totally Wicked, said: "This report suggests that we are promoting electronic cigarettes and refill liquids to younger teenagers and non-smokers. This is totally untrue.
As is clear from all our packaging, signage in our shops, and advertising material, we do not sell to under eighteens and prohibit retailers from doing so. This accords with current guidance from Trading Standards".
Cancer Research UK said through its lawyers that it acknowledged Totally Wicked's "concerns", but declined to correct the report because it said it had done nothing "unlawful".
Mr Cropper added: "At a personal level, I am a long-standing admirer of Cancer Research and all it does. However, we cannot afford to allow this unjustified attack on the business to stand uncorrected.
We therefore ask Cancer Research UK to do the decent thing and set the record straight. That said, I want to make it clear, we are not seeking financial damages from Cancer Research UK, only asking them to withdraw this allegation."
