Last Tuesday, the European Commission announced a Public-Private-Partnership (cPPP) with the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO ), a multi-business organization including security market players, national authorities and other entities, acting on behalf of the private sector. S21sec is a founding member of ECSO.
According to a recent PwC survey, at least 80% of European companies have suffered at least one cybersecurity incident over the last year, and the number of security incidents across all industries worldwide rose by 38% in 2015. "This damages European companies, whether they are big or small, and threats to undermine trust in the digital economy", says Xabier Mitxelena, CEO, S21sec. "With our participation in this project, we aim to contribute to build a strong, harmonized and competitive European cybersecurity market across all sectors".

As part of its 'Digital Single Market' strategy the EC wants to reinforce cooperation across borders, and between all actors and sectors active in cybersecurity, to help develop innovative and secure technologies for individuals, enterprises, public entities, etc. The EU will invest €450 million under its Horizon 2020 program. Cybersecurity market players, represented by ECSO, are expected to contribute to achieve a total investment around 1.8 billion Euro by 2020.
"Without trust and security, there can be no Digital Single Market", says Andrus Ansip, Vice-President for the Digital Single Market program. "Europe has to be ready to tackle cyber-threats that are increasingly sophisticated and do not recognise borders. Today, we are proposing concrete measures to strengthen Europe's resilience against such attacks and the capacity needed for building and expanding our digital economy."
Today's action plan finds its main roots in the Digital Single Market program, put in place in 2015, and the EU Cybersecurity Strategy, initiated in 2013. The partnership will also include members from national, regional and local public administrations, research centers and academia.
