Energy efficiency experts EUM Consultants have today issued an open letter to key energy policy influencers inviting them to experience the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) first hand, before making any further assumptions
SOLIHULL, England, October 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
An open letter:
From: Alex Tsimboykas, Director of EUM
To: Ed Davey, Michael Fallon, Caroline Flint, Gregory Barker and Ofgem.
Over the past week, the subject of 'green tax' has become a game of political football amidst the ongoing speculation of blackouts and energy supplier prices rises. It concerns me that there is a misconception about 'consumer apathy' towards energy efficiency V's the real issue, which is 'consumer accessibility'.
At EUM we survey over 3,000 homes nationwide every week that could benefit from energy efficiency savings - both in terms of £cost and carbon. However, two thirds of these surveys are unable to move forwards to installation due to the current restrictive ECO criteria. Of those that are able to move forwards, there is a further unnecessary drop out due to the lengthy and costly process involved in getting to the install being completed.
Over the past seven days I have witnessed talks about delaying ECO, changing ECO to a general tax, as well as scrapping ECO and The Green Deal all together. I do firmly believe in the need for an effective energy efficiency scheme that is delivered in a cost effective manner, and I believe the current scheme is the right vehicle for this, however it is in need of a significant overhaul - an overhaul that must start bottom up and engage the whole supply chain.
In order to understand the scheme's deployment, and to help create an energy efficiency scheme that targets the right people, whilst being delivered in a cost effective way, the current scheme needs to be experienced from the ground. Therefore, we are inviting you to experience the current scheme first hand.
Your invitation to gain first hand experience of ECO
In seeing ECO delivery in action you will be able to understand the process, criteria and accessibility hurdles faced by consumers every day - it is these barriers which are slowing ECO down and delaying it reaching those that need it the most.
You will accompany a surveyor on customer visits at a location of your choosing, where you will gain first hand experience of the ECO process and its criteria.
Please email me directly on alex@eumconsultants.co.uk and I will arrange your visit.
I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
Alex Tsimboykas
Director, EUM
