Driving Home for Christmas - Car Hire Bookings for the Festive Period Up 11%

Leading car hire comparator eRentals.co.uk latest figures show car hire bookings for the Christmas and New Year period are already up 11% compared to the same time last year

A surge in car hire bookings over the Christmas period means those travelling home over the holidays can expect an even busier season to last year, particularly those using air travel.

The number of bookings made for the period 22^nd- 31^st December 2012 is up 11% on the previous year. According to the figures from eRentals.co.uk all aspects of booking appear to be on the rise, with the amount of total hire days also up by 22% for car hire providers.

Figures also show those travelling home for the holidays are making use of extra time off work by going away for longer. The average length of car hire time per person has risen from 6 and a half days to 7 and a half days.

The statistics relate to bookings made to and from different airports across the globe. Contrary to summertime figures many of the bookings are made from the less well known airports as opposed to the top holiday hot spots. These destinations include; Bucharest Otopeni Airport, Grantley Adams Airport, Ponte Delgada Airport and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport, highlighting the widespread international trips many people make, especially at Christmas time, to get back to their families.
