Relief at MEP No Vote for E-Cigarette Crackdown - Clive Bates and Mike Ryan Speak Out
LONDON, October 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The European Parliament's vote on a raft of measures to help curb smoking stopped short of mandating that e-cigarettes should be regulated as a medical device.
Following on from this much awaited decision, e-cigarette retailers and users alike are breathing a sigh of relief, while the county's law makers reassess their strategy.
As Clive Bates of The Counterfactual said, following the announcement - 'Governments need to pause and consider what happened here, show some humility and think again. Thousands of users mounted a stunning bottom-up rebellion against ill-fitting, excessive and restrictive regulation that threatened the products that they found have transformed their health and wellbeing.'
Mike Ryan, Chairman of E-Lites also mentioned to the BBC - 'It's a big victory for public health, and it really does allow this challenging industry to project itself forward…bring the fight to the tobacco companies, and offer smokers a true alternative to the products they have been offered for so many years.'
Clive and Mike will be speaking further about the future of e-cigarettes at Europe's only e-cigarette industry event, eCig Europe, taking place in London, 4th - 5th December 2013.
