LONDON, September 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The internet's first real-time radio search engine is now available on the iPhone. Radio Tuna for iPhone is the newest addition to the suite of online radio products created by Tuna Media, and is the most powerful yet. Featuring extensive real-time information and a proprietary station-sorting algorithm, the app is the easiest way to discover and enjoy thousands of online radio stations.
Radio Tuna indexes the music played on over 20,000 stations in real-time, sorting them according to the genres of music that they play. This produces such fine-grained categories as Dub Techno, Lovers Rock and Chiptune, and a unique profiling algorithm calculates the exact proportions of the different types of music played by each station.
The interface of the app has been designed for optimal convenience, with all features quickly and easily accessible. The iPhone app is the first product from Tuna Media to incorporate a recording feature, so audio can be recorded for later playback. Stations are sorted into over 300 genre categories, and searches can also be made for individual artists.
About Radio Tuna
The creators of Radio Tuna are music fans from Brighton who loved internet radio but were frustrated by the process of finding new stations.
Co-founder William Jenkins said, "We created Radio Tuna because we love internet radio but were fed up with other search engines. Our guiding principle is less hassle, more joy. We create simple-to-use products that are made possible with complex technology."
Beneath the intuitive interface lies cutting-edge software that processes and indexes the tracks, genres and artists as they're played across the globe. Radio Tuna creates products for music lovers of every genre to tune in to what is playing right now, with up-to-the minute data on every track played across the internet.
About Internet Radio
Internet Radio has a vast global audience, with approximately 150 million monthly listeners in the United States alone. It is unique in its ability to serve niche audiences with highly specialised content, making it the ultimate 'Long Tail' music source. The diversity of music on offer is unmatched by any other service.
Although there are some large professional stations with thousands of listeners, there are many more tiny ones who only broadcast to a handful of people at a time. These small stations often cost more to run than they ever make and are run purely for the love of the music.
