Judges David Payne, BMJ editor; Tim Dean, editor of Prescriber; and GP Dr Keith Hopcroft said the journal for practice and community nurses was "clear and authoritative while remaining lively and interesting with a good mix of journalism and scholarly content".
Nursing in Practice was shortlisted for the award along with weekly titles, Health Service Journal and Nursing Times at the event hosted by comedian Helen Lederer, which was held at the Royal Society of Medicine.
Editor-in-chief Victoria Vaughan said: "We have the greatest respect for our fellow nominees and we are really delighted to have won this prestigious award.
"We are a small team and I'd like to thank commissioning editor Amy Brewerton and reporter Lalah Springer for all their hard work which has got us to this point.
"I'd also like to thank our editorial board for their support and guidance, all the authors who contribute to the magazine and of course our readers who do the real work."
The Medical Journalism Association, a membership organisation for health journalists, organised the event.
Other winners included Laura Donnelly, health correspondent at the Telegraph, who won the consumer journalist category and Kathryn Bingham, NHS Choices, for online innovation.
