President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Visits Oil Palm Development Sites in Sinoe County
GREENVILLE, Liberia, April 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Liberia's President, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf today visited oil palm farms in Sinoe County. Travelling with members of the press, President Johnson Sirleaf made visits to Golden Veroleum Liberia's (GVL) oil palm development sites in Butaw and Numapoh Kpanyan, where, in the last two years, GVL has created over 2,700 new jobs.
In a successful repeat visit the President wished to see for herself the oil palm development in Sinoe. Over the course of the day, the President met with GVL's employees and viewed locally built infrastructure of employee housing, health facilities and school. By investing in Sinoe, GVL are committed to creating enduring and tangible benefits for Liberia. The President is also meeting local citizens and communities, who welcome the development while some are apprehensive yet hopeful about the changes that such development brings.
Speaking after the visit, GVL's Co-Founder and Director Matt Karinen praised the Liberian government's commitment to see a successful development take place, when he said,
"The benefits of modern oil palm industry emerging in these communities would not be possible without the Liberian government's commitment to attracting foreign investment and proven expertise. We are working to rebuild the economy and realise the country's untapped potential. Development does not come without challenges, and we are here to work with the communities to surmount them."
GVL is proud to contribute to Liberia's economic growth and is committed to the sustainable and value added production of palm oil in Liberia.
Palm oil production, commencing in 2015 from the initial planted palms, is a valuable resource for Liberia's developing economy, with GVL's operations the largest ever investment programme in the rural South East of Liberia.
