Handelsblatt Global Edition Presents new Brexit Survey
DÜSSELDORF, Germany, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
U.K. is Split - 40 Percent Want to Stay, 40 percent Want to Leave E.U.
Little more than three weeks before a June 23 national referendum, U.K. residents are evenly split over whether to stay in or leave the European Union, according to a new poll released Tuesday by Handelsblatt Global Edition and U.K. pollster YouGov.
The survey found Britons deeply divided: 40 percent said they preferred Britain to leave the European Union, and the same percentage said they wanted to stay part of the 28-nation bloc. The remaining 20 percent were undecided or did not plan to vote.
The poll also surveyed attitudes towards Brexit in Germany, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. The majority of those polled in Germany, Finland, Sweden and Denmark said they wanted Britain to remain in the European Union. In Norway and France, more people wanted Britain to stay in than to leave, but support for Bremain was less than 50 percent amid high "Don't know'’ answers.
The survey was conducted on May 19 and 20 and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percent. The poll also revealed deep dissatisfaction with the European Union among many voters in all of the countries surveyed. Many said they expected other E.U. countries to leave the European Union if Britons vote to exit the bloc.
