Frost & Sullivan: Increase in Connected Devices Spurs Use of Unified Communications and Collaboration Solutions in Latin America
Customized, competitively-priced solutions will attract the rapidly growing SMB end-user segment
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, Nov. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With more than 1 billion devices expected to be connected to the Internet in Latin America by 2015, the need for sophisticated systems able to support voice/data/video traffic is burgeoning. Along with this proliferation of connected devices, the rise in small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) and enhanced end-user awareness on the benefits of unified communications (UC) and collaboration solutions will open up a range of opportunities for market participants in Latin America. Research reveals that there will still be demand for on-premises UC despite growing competition from cloud-based UC providers.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.conferencing.frost.com), The Latin American Unified Communications and Collaboration Solutions Market, finds that the market earned revenues of $1.01 billion in 2012 and estimates this to reach $1.83 billion in 2019. Market growth is expected to peak at 10.1 percent between 2017 and 2018.
With the increasing use of personally-owned smart devices, employees across organizations have begun to expect multiple modes of communication (voice/data/video) at their workplace as well, prompting enterprises to adopt advanced UC and collaboration solutions. In addition to giving employees the tools they want, the productivity gains from deploying these solutions make for a compelling investment justification for companies.
"Market participants are moving away from niche segments to offer a wider array of UC and collaboration solutions, thereby expanding the potential of the Latin American market," said Frost & Sullivan Information & Communication Technologies Research Analyst Francisco Rizzo. "Defining licensing options based on end-user types – whether deskbound or mobile – too has created greater value for companies and fuelled market revenues."
However, the lack of infrastructure to meet the high band-width requirements of the fast-expanding Internet user base in Latin America negatively impacts the quality and reliability of UC solutions. Although service providers are developing efficient, less bandwidth-intensive solutions to counter this challenge, these are only as good as the public network they run on.
Further, the availability of free substitute solutions is making it difficult for service providers to penetrate the price-sensitive SMB segment. High taxes imposed on imported goods also restrict market development in the region.
"Vendors in the Latin American market must provide competitively-priced, enterprise-grade solutions tailored for the SMB space to encourage uptake among companies with tight budgets," noted Rizzo. "Promoting cloud-based models that require less hardware will aid market expansion."
