DEKRA Expands Power Plant Inspection Business

ÅF-Kontroll, the Swedish subsidiary of DEKRA based in Gothenburg, now operates under the name of DEKRA Industrial AB. The change of name is part of DEKRA's global single brand strategy. Together with the Finnish affiliated company, DEKRA Industrial OY, the company is the driving force behind the expansion of the international power plant inspection business.
DEKRA took over the Swedish industrial inspection company in the spring of 2010. The company specialises in the inspection and non-destructive testing of materials (NDT), especially in the power and process industry and large-scale facilities field. DEKRA Industrial AB employs around 430 people and has more than 27 locations in Sweden as well as branches in Norway, the Czech Republic and Lithuania.
"DEKRA aims to become an international market leader in the testing and inspection field with the ability to provide global support for its customers in the energy and process industry sector", explained Jörgen Backersgård Head of DEKRA Industrial in the Nordic countries, who will continue to run the company together with Werner Bollmann, General manager of DEKRA Sweden. In Scandinavia, through its Finnish and Swedish subsidiaries, DEKRA is already number one in this sector.
In recent years DEKRA, the expert organisation, has grown the industrial inspection business into the Group's second biggest segment behind the automotive business. In 2010 DEKRA's Business Unit Industrial generated around EUR 500 million worldwide and employed, 5 900 people.
