Autumn Statement: Lack of Practical Support for Families Will Punish Parents
LONDON, December 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Commenting on the Autumn Statement, Gemma Johnson, Mother of two and CEO of money-saving website MyFamilyClub.co.uk, said:
"After a tough financial year, we welcome the news that the Chancellor will be cancelling the planned fuel increase putting much needed cash back in the pocket of those who have been hit by unfair rises for far too long.
"However, with reports that parents have to walk miles in the blistering cold to visit food banks and with the on-going creep of payday loan companies onto our high streets, the lack of practical support for families in this Statement is disappointing.
"After doing the right things and playing by the rules, families deserve more than a 1% increase cap on Child Tax Credit and Child Benefit which with the latest inflation figures means a real terms cut in benefit payments.
"Both provide a vital lifeline for those trying to juggle a toxic mix of increasing living costs and flatlining salaries.
"We urge the Government to do more to practically help families as they face what will probably be yet another bleak financial winter."
