A tyre factory has become the 28^th member of the Kaluga automotive cluster

A tyre factory of Germany's concern Continental was inaugurated in Kaluga on October 29, with the region's governor, Anatoly Artamonov, taking part. The event was yet another in a series of successful joint projects the regional government and its development institutions implements with its long-standing business partners.

As he addressed the authorities of the Kaluga Region with words of thanks for comprehensive assistance in implementing the project, the chief executive officer of Kaluga Continental LLP, Georgy Rotov said: "Building a large industrial facility from scratch in less than two years was a no easy task. It has been accomplished successfully. The governor-led team did its utmost to translate into reality what at a certain point may have looked impossible. Today we are part of the Kaluga Region and we shall be developing together."

Governor Artamonov said the emergence of another automotive industry-related plant was a major stride along the path of developing the regional economy effectively. "The region has seen the emergence of another German factory firmly based on Russian soil. The Kaluga automotive cluster now consists of nearly thirty operations. The advent of such a major investor as Continental is a token of quality awarded to our region. We shall keep working to create an environment where international companies will be eager to build their industrial plants. The new factory will enhance the localization of automotive production in our region. It is one of the tasks the federal authoritieshave set to us."

Governor Artamonov took a tour of the factory's facilities and attended a news conference.

The factory began to be built at the industrial park Rosva in 2011. It will manufacture summer and winter tyres for cars and trucks of three brands popular in Russia - Continental, Gislaved and Matador. Investments into the project totaled 240 million euros. By 2015 the plant's personnel will reach 800.

At the moment Continental runs three operations in Kaluga. It is expanding the Continental Automotive Systems Rus LLP, which manufactures electronic automobile components and fuel injection systems, and also completing the construction of a ContiTech plant - the manufacturer of air conditioning systems and power steering components. The concern's management plans to go ahead with its effective partnership with the Kaluga Region.
