As part of its UK and Ireland launch, Instructure created a competition to give away 10 space kits to 10 lucky schools. To apply for a space kit and become part of the Canvas Space Programme, teachers were invited to submit a 60 second video with their class, telling Canvas why they should win.
The Canvas Space Programme offers pupils at winning schools the opportunity to embark on their very own scientific explorations and to capture extraordinary footage of the earth with their miniature space capsules. Canvas is sending winning participants everything they need to send a capsule to space, including a flight computer, a state-of-the-art camera, GPS, a parachute and a space blanket (Martian defence ray not included).
The Space Programme winners are:
Upton Primary School, Pontefract, West Yorkshire
Brook Field Primary School, Shaw, Swindon, Wiltshire
Spring Hill High School, Birmingham
Kells and Connor Primary School, Ballymena, Co Antrim
Idsall School, Shifnal, Shropshire
Gatley Academy Trust, Cheadle
Oasis Academy Harpur Mount, Manchester
The Dorcan Academy, Covingham, Swindon
Ladygrove Primary School, Dawley, Telford
Otley All Saints Primary School, Otley, Yorkshire
After over-seeing the competitive judging process, Kenny Nicholl, Director EMEA Sales at Canvas by Instructure, commented, "Canvas received incredible applications from schools all across the UK, and our winners were chosen based on their creative submissions, which captured our philosophy for innovation. Picking our winning space cadets was no easy feat for our panel of experts, and we can't wait to see the results when these schools launch their very own space missions — it's time to bring science and technology to (extra-terrestrial) life!"
Instructure launched Canvas in February 2011 and has since attracted more than 1,000 institutions. Today it supports more than 16 million teachers and students from around the world.
