Wikia Sees Significant Increase in Daily Traffic and Time Spent: Growing Entertainment Vertical Shows Uptick in Female Engagement

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Wikia.com, the home for social fandom and the ultimate source for powerful and relevant pop culture, entertainment (film, TV, music and books) and game expertise, revealed today its traffic results from comScore's July 2013 Media Metrix, including web and mobile, showing a 19% year-over-year traffic increase to 60.1 million global unique visitors and 1.1 billion page views a month. The site has also seen a 25% year-over-year increase in time spent per visit, as visitors are logging-on more often and engaging on the site longer. In total, Wikia users worldwide have spent over one billion minutes on the site in July, averaging 17 minutes per visitor.
Wikia mobile usage is also experiencing strong growth with a 27% increase in unique visitors bringing mobile users to 10 million, nearly double the U.S. audience. Pageviews on mobile devices is up 81% year-over-year accounting for 180 million views across Wikia sites with 71.3 million for their game vertical, 50.3 million on entertainment (up 114%) and 4.2 million on lifestyle (up 163%). Wikia's continued dedication to their mobile experience was enhanced with the launch of two mobile apps - My Wikia and Wikia Game Guides 2.0. Their slate of mobile offerings provides users with seamless, interactive ways to engage with the vast array of content on the site anytime, anywhere.

In July 2013, comScore reported Wikia's highest female engagement to-date (47% female), with the uptick being driven by Wikia's entertainment vertical which encompasses film, TV, music and books, saw a 25% increase with 10.3 million uniques. Additionally, Wikia took the top spot among the Top 100 web properties within the 13-17 year old demographic and claimed the number two spot among 18-24 year olds in the U.S.. Globally Wikia ranked 2nd in composition of 15-24 year olds. Popular Wikia's that were driving traffic for the month of July include Pacific Rim, The Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, Disney, Star Wars and Pretty Little Liars.
