Milestone service reached following establishment in 1965
ABERDEEN, Scotland, Oct. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Weatherford International plc today recognises 50 years of operations in the North Sea UK Continental Shelf as one of the leading global oilfield service companies, having initially incorporated on 1st November, 1965.
Weatherford's evolution has been both rapid and consistent, mirroring the growth of the larger energy industry. Following its original inception in Sauls Wharf, Great Yarmouth, Weatherford opened its first location in Aberdeen in 1972, providing Tubular Running Services and associated product and equipment offerings to the UK market.
Substantial business expansion prompted the relocation of Head Office to Aberdeen in 1978 with several acquisitions to follow, launching the Company's Fishing and Drilling Tool Rental product and service offerings. In 1995, Weatherford merged with Enterra Corporation in the United States, giving rise to the Company's now market leading Production Optimisation and Petroleum Consulting Services.
A further period of healthy acquisition continued throughout the next 15 years, adding both Drilling Services and Wireline Services in August 2005 through the integration of Precision Drilling Corporation's Energy Services organization and the Reservoir Laboratories AS group of companies and their associated coring services in June 2007. More recently, 2012 saw the integration of Petrowell Limited, a company specializing in the design, engineering, manufacturing and testing of oil and gas completion tools, including the downhole application of highly innovative Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
Commenting on this significant Company milestone, Gary Duncan, Managing Director of Weatherford U.K. Limited said, "We are extremely proud to have achieved this considerable length of service here in the UK North Sea. From humble beginnings to one of the largest oilfield service companies in the world is a remarkable achievement and due in no small part to our committed team and supportive client base. From a singular number of product lines to a technology portfolio of products and services that span the lifecycle of a well, our clients have continually supported and shown faith in our capacity as a highly credible technology innovator, further enabling us to achieve such a landmark."
