Warm Weather Fooling Householders with 'Lower' Energy Bills

LONDON, June 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

With the weather finally hotting up after a miserable spring, householders are switching off their heating and expecting their energy bills to fall as a result. However, savvy consumers have realised they may not truly be saving if they remain on a high tariff and are taking the opportunity to use a price comparison website, such as comparethemarket.com, to find a better deal.

As their energy use decreases due to the rising summer temperatures, complacent consumers could be forgiven for rejoicing over lower energy bills. However, if they haven't switched to a lower tariff, their savings will be short-lived when the bills shoot back up as usage increases. With this realisation, a number of householders are expected to go online to try to find a better deal on their gas and electricity while their bills are currently low.

Andrew Stocks, Director at comparethemarket.com said: "Hotter weather usually automatically means lower energy bills as householders switch off their heating. However, unless customers move to a lower tariff, any savings they make during summer will be wiped out once winter comes back around. People shopping around for a better deal on their gas and electricity should head to comparethemarket.com for a simple, hassle-free way to compare offers from a range of energy providers."

Specialising in more than just electricity and gas, comparethemarket.com provides customers with an easy way to find the right deal on a wide range of insurance and financial products including car insurance, home insurance, van insurance, bike insurance, life insurance, pet insurance and credit cards.  It also offers comparisons for a range of household utilities including phone, broadband and digital TV.
