Secures $7M in funding from Bessemer Venture Partners to fuel global expansion
SAN FRANCISCO and LONDON, April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Wandera today announced the launch of its Mobile Data Optimization (MDO) service that helps businesses manage the explosion of mobile data usage in their organisations. Wandera's cloud platform utilises adaptive data compression and real-time processing to dramatically reduce a company's mobile data usage and spend by up to 60 percent. At the same time, its analytics engine provides unparalleled insights into their mobile data usage, which has previously been unavailable. Wandera works transparently for mobile devices wherever they are in the world, without changing the user experience.

"Globally, businesses spent $29 billion on roaming data charges alone in 2012. With employees migrating from desktops to mobile devices, businesses need a solution that helps them manage their data costs and usage without harming employee productivity," said Eldar Tuvey, CEO and founder at Wandera. "We've designed Wandera from the ground up to do just that."
The company also announced it has received $7 million in funding from global venture capital firm Bessemer Venture Partners to fund its launch and global expansion. Bessemer has deep cloud and mobile experience, having backed companies including Skype, Broadsoft, Intucell, Box and LinkedIn.
"Companies around the world have embraced a multi-screen approach, using smartphones as a key productivity tool, but often paying exorbitant bills due to roaming charges," said Bessemer partner Adam Fisher. "Wandera's cloud solution is addressing this very real pain point faced by businesses delivering greater visibility into mobile data use and a clear ROI."
Mobile data usage (up 133 percent year over year) is skyrocketing in the enterprise with the proliferation of smartphones, tablets and their data-hungry applications. While the productivity gains are considerable, it comes at a great cost to businesses, which can easily lose control. The impact is strongest with roaming, as international travel quickly inflates monthly bills and generates the all too common "bill-shock." With Wandera, businesses can regain control of mobile costs, saving an average of £100 a month on individual roaming bills.
Mobile carriers aren't providing basic itemised data reporting to their customers. Wandera's real-time analytics engine changes this dynamic, back in favour of the enterprise, enabling businesses to obtain a completely comprehensive picture of how users are engaging with their mobile devices and specific applications. Businesses can then use this insight to ensure they're providing employees with the most efficient and productive tools possible.
Nick McQuire, Vice President Mobile Enterprise Strategies at global advisory firm IDC, said, "With the rapid explosion in mobile data usage, Mobile Data Optimization (MDO) is becoming an increasingly vital tool for managing and reporting on mobile data usage in the enterprise."
The team behind Wandera are experienced entrepreneurs. They launched the first cloud web security service, ScanSafe, that scaled rapidly to thousands of enterprise customers and spawned a whole new cloud category, before being acquired by Cisco in 2010.
