Following the Office of Rail Regulation statement on Network Rail's punctuality targets, Tony Collins Virgin Trains CEO said: "It is crucial that we get punctuality to an acceptable level for our customers.
"But what customers really want is consistency, and so we are working closely with Network Rail to make sure they provide us with a good level of punctuality day in, day out.
"A consistent figure of 88 percent is preferable to some days of 90 percent or higher and then very poor days as we have had in recent months. We have made this clear to the ORR and we look to them to ensure that improvements are made. We have also had assurances from Network Rail that improving performance on West Coast is their priority."
