LONDON, November 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
The rising number of UK unemployed youths are being advised by leading learner management software providers Perspective to look towards vocational courses and apprenticeships to help increase their chances of gaining employment.
Recently released figures illustrate that the number of 'neets' (16-24-year-olds not in education, employment or training) has risen to 18.4% during the first quarter of 2011. These figures are the highest they have been since 2007, and represent a 2.1% increase on figures from 2010. The total percentage represents nearly a million 16-24-year-olds now classed as 'neet'.
In light of this number of 'neets', coupled with an overcrowded jobs market, young people are being advised to consider continuing education and training where possible to help increase the likelihood of finding employment in the future. Given the competition for each available job, it is important young people try and stand out from fellow applicants. Apprenticeships and vocational courses allow students to earn a wage whilst enhancing their on-site skills and training, which is likely to enhance their appeal when applying for work in the future.
Paul Davis, managing director of Perspective, said: "Vocational courses and apprenticeships offer a viable solution to young people unable to gain a suitable foothold on the employment ladder. With the current jobs market so saturated, prospective employees need to find ways to stand out from the crowd, and gaining on-site experience whilst continuing their education is paramount in attempts to move away from being 'neet'.
