This report examines the UK market for small domestic electrical appliances. It divides the market into two main sectors: kitchen appliances and non-kitchen appliances. This framework primarily includes corded products, although some cordless products that must be recharged - including handheld vacuum cleaners - are also covered. Battery-operated and manually powered goods are not included within the coverage of this report. Additionally, electric personal care products are not included within the scope of this report but will instead be the sole focus of a new report in the future. It is also important to note that while some manufacturers in the market also operate in the professional and commercial sectors, this report solely focuses on home usage.
MARKET SECTORS
- Kettles and coffee/tea makers - appliances that are specifically designed to boil water and be used in the preparation of hot beverages. This includes traditional-style kettles, jug-style kettles, travel kettles, teasmades, and filter, espresso and cappuccino coffee-making machines.
- Toasters and sandwich makers - standard toasters, toasted sandwich makers and waffle makers all fall within the boundaries of this subsector.
- Food preparation appliances - a variety of products make up this subsector. This includes food processors, mixers, blenders, liquidisers, handheld choppers and those fixed on stands, electric juicers, electric gadgets and other appliances that perform tasks such as blending, slicing, shredding, stirring and mashing foods and beverages.
- Deep-fat fryers - although this subsector solely covers one type of appliance, it is made up of products of varying complexity. They range from standard fryers to those that incorporate cool-wall technology for safety, as well as hot-air circulation technology for less unhealthy fried foods.
