Leading development company Stonewash specialize in magazine and newspaper apps for smartphones and tablets. The London-based company has built a brand new magazine platform for Windows 8 and after being invited to launch alongside today's Release Preview. Several existing Stonewash clients including Fine Cooking, Lusso and Global Insight are amongst the magazines to be available on Windows 8 Release Preview, which was released earlier today.
The Stonewash Magazine Framework has been designed to take the pain out of development; the framework is available to magazine and newspaper publishers at a fixed price, and includes browser based tools enabling editions to be enhanced with additional interactive and compelling content, without technical ability or expensive and time-consuming training.
The framework has been designed to provide a great experience for the reader, while simultaneously being cheap to deploy, easy to use. Stonewash maintain a sophisticated back-end that makes it easy for publishers to gather valuable data about readers.
"We looked tablet magazine solutions from many companies and chose to work with Stonewash because they clearly had an in-depth understanding of magazine publishing and their solution allows us to create great, immersive editions across multiple platforms cost-effectively without having to repurpose our already intricate magazine layouts. Our editors will be using our beautiful, award-winning magazines as a base to layer in-depth video tutorials, hi-res photo slideshows, social tie-ins, and HTML5-based functionality for everything from ingredient conversions to 360-degree garment demos", said Jason Revzon, SVP, Taunton Interactive
"We're very proud to have been selected to work so closely with Microsoft on the Release Preview of Windows 8; with such a huge proportion of publisher revenue coming from tablets in the future, it's vital that publishers get on board with what is bound to be a huge slice of the market. Speaking as a developer, I'm excited to be working on a brand new operating system - Windows 8 is a huge leap forward", said Daniel Sharp, co-founder of Stonewash.
The founders of Stonewash began developing the first version of the Stonewash Magazine Framework from a Berkeley Square sandwich shop in 2008. As professional publishers, we knew smartphones would need a user-friendly magazine experience; we knew that just making a PDF wasn't enough. Fast forward 4 years and we are at the forefront of developing apps for smartphones and tablets, with clients including Lusso, the Taunton stable of magazines and the International Bar Association. We provide apps that give a great off-the-shelf experience for readers, with a superb suite of tools meaning everyone on the team can upload content, coupled with functionality geared to capturing the reader data advertisers and publishers need.
