LONDON, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
New data shows that many British tourists took advantage of April bank holidays to travel abroad;according to Travelsoon.comthis is great news for travellers.
New data collected by ACI Europe, the Airports Council International, has revealed a 30 per cent increase in the number of passengers travelling from Heathrow and Gatwick in April. According to Travelsoon.com, many Brits took advantage of April's bank holidays to travel to a variety of sunny destinations. Warm weather jaunts were in particularly high demand as holidays to the likes of Puerto Pollensa in Majorca, the Greek island of Crete and the Canary Islands proved to be very popular with British travellers.
The data showed that both London airports had increased passenger traffic year-on-year, even in the face of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption last year which disrupted air travel significantly. Comparing this year's data with figures from 2009, passenger traffic had increased by nearly 10 per cent.
Luke Nathan of Travelsoon.com says: "Comparing this year's figure to those of 2009, we are seeing a steady increase in the number of people travelling abroad - this is proof that the travel industry is growing steadily. This is great news for British holidaymakers."
April is a busy time for the travel industry with a large amount of its annual revenue being generated during the month. With the added benefit of an extra bank holiday in April many more holidaymakers took the opportunity to get away.
