Top Ten Obesity Risks Infographic

Angeles Health International has released an obesity risks infopgrahic of the top ten risks associated with obesity. The infographics shows that an estimated 112,000 Americans die every year as a result of an obesity-related disease. With the continuing rise in obesity in America the top ten inforgraphic illustrates in stark simplicity the risks associated with obesity and aims to encourage people to re-evaluate their lifestyle choices and take action to prevent them from being one of these frightening statistics.

Amongst medical professionals, obesity is acknowledged to be the fastest growing cause of premature deaths amongst Americans, with one out of eight deaths in America caused by an illness directly linked to being overweight or obese.

The Body Mass Index calculation measures an individual's weight against their height. While a BMI of under 25 is considered to be healthy, health risks increase dramatically when an individual has a BMI of over 30 with those with a BMI of over 40, considered morbidly obese, being up to 100% more likely to die a premature death because of their obesity.  The infograpghic by Angeles Health International shows that if these people successfully have bariatric surgery, their risks of developing life threatening conditions such as some cancers, high blood pressure and breathing problems are significantly reduced. What's more a large proportion of patients will be cured of conditions that they had before surgery, with 50% of weight loss patients who previously suffered with high blood pressure and 75% of those with sleep apnea being cured following surgery.

Type II diabetes is one of the chronic illnesses linked to obesity, with 90% of sufferers being obese.  Studies show that the number of people diagnosed with type II diabetes doubled between 1990 and 2005 and researchers claim that if this trend continues, by 2050 an estimated 48 million Americans will suffer from the condition. As the 7th biggest cause of death in the US today type II diabetes is causing great consternation amongst healthcare providers. But it's not all bad news; studies show that losing weight can dramatically change the prognosis for sufferers of type II diabetes, with 80% of sufferers being cured following weight loss surgery.
