The RSPB Embraces Mobile Technology to Cut Warehouse Costs and Boost Business Efficiency

LONDON, November 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --

The UK charity has transformed its warehouse operations using SOTI MobiControl, deployed and supported by Spirit Data Capture, to optimise the use of its new Zebra TC70 touch computers

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has reduced its warehouse costs by £100,000 in just six months after connecting SOTI MobiControl with its new omnichannel software and Zebra mobile scanners, sourced and commissioned by Spirit Data Capture Limited.

As the UK's largest nature conservation charity, the RSPB sends a huge amount of products and information to supporters every year. It is therefore essential that its warehouse operations are as reliable and efficient as possible.

The organisation has been using mobile technology for some time, but it's only in the last six months that mobility has become more prevalent in the fulfilment area with the introduction of SOTI MobiControl, deployed and supported by SOTI partner Spirit Data Capture and the RSPB omnichannel software. By connecting the software to employee-operated Zebra TC70 touch computers and printers sourced by Spirit, the RSPB is able to make better decisions on what products it needs to supply to its retail shops and can deliver to customers in a much faster way than it has ever done before.

Indeed, the hardware and software combination has improved efficiency so dramatically that the RSPB can now take orders until 6pm and dispatch them on the same day. With SOTI MobiControl,  employees receive updates on their devices immediately, with no need to wait and and no downtime, enabling them to fulfil customer orders in a fraction of the time.

"Using Zebra's touch computers and new software has meant that we've been able to reduce our costs in the warehouse by £100,000 per year," said Roy Roddy, fulfilment manager for the RSPB. "Our staff love using the new technology, which has enabled them to be much more efficient and has sped up our picking and packing process tremendously"

The introduction of the software has had a dramatic impact on the RSPB's operations, highlighting the vital role enterprise mobility plays in enabling today's fast-paced business world.

"The RSPB's success provides yet another example of the key influence mobility solutions now have on business operations, no matter what the industry," said Leigh Moody, UK Managing Director, SOTI. "From enabling cost savings and efficiency improvements, to enhancing the customer experience, mobile technology is driving businesses to improve their level of service and set themselves apart from their competitors."

Ebbie Khadem, Spirit's Managing Director, adds, "We are delighted to be a part of this project, which involved such a prestigious organisation as the RSPB. SOTI MobiControl has been one of our flagship solutions for several years. We have many satisfied clients that can attest to its usefulness in optimising the return on investment they can get from their handheld mobile devices."
