Television X Screens Original Uncut Version of Deep Throat to Soho Audience

Tomorrow night (Thursday 22nd August) at The Curzon on Shaftesbury Avenue, in the centre of London's Soho, Britain's most popular adult TV station will be holding a private screening of the original uncut version of cult porn classic Deep Throat. The screening is set to coincide with the nationwide release of the Linda Lovelace biopic Lovelace - released on 23rd August. It will be the first time that the uncut version has been screened to a mainstream Soho audience.

Deep Throat, will then be broadcast at 10pm on Television X on 23rd August across Sky, Freeview and Virgin platforms and will also be made available On Demand on TVXflix on YouView and via the Television X website - http://www.televisionx.com.

Since its release in June 1972, Deep Throat has attracted both box office success and huge controversy. Shot in a week for $25,000 the movie went onto gross $600m by 1980 and was among the top ten highest grossing movies ever, ranking alongside Star Wars and ET. The filmed premiered The New World Theatre, Manhattan, New York and played for 39 weeks. Noted celebrities who attended the screening included Sammy Davies Junior, Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson. Deep Throat marked a turning point in the history of adult cinema bringing porno out of the closet to a mainstream audience. So began the age of porno chic.

"Before you see the film about the film, see the film!" said Programming Director Chris Ratcliff about the seminal skin flick. "Deep Throat  broke many taboos and paved the way for the adult industry in terms of breaking out into the mainstream. We want to celebrate this piece of work and get it out to a whole new audience."  

Before the screening a panel of adult and film industry experts will discuss the cultural and social impact of the film. The panel will include:

  • Porn producer and academic Anna Arrowsmith otherwise known as Anna Span.
  • Metro newspaper film editor Larushka Isk.
  • Adult film maker and producer for Channel 4's The Real Sex Season Amory Peart.
  • Erotic Film Society founder JJ Marsh.
