Leading VMware cloud hosting provider StratoGen has been officially selected as an approved supplier on G-Cloud 5, the government's official online procurement network. G-Cloud 5 which now features 1,132 cloud suppliers is the biggest version of the framework to date.

The framework was designed to help bolster the number of SMBs involved with public sector IT procurement. According to the latest figures from the Cabinet Office, since launch, more than £175 million has been spent by the public sector on procuring cloud services through the framework. Sixty per cent of sales through G-Cloud have been awarded to SMB suppliers, the government has confirmed. In March 2013, it was made mandatory for all central Government departments to adopt a "cloud first" policy when procuring new IT assets. The Cabinet Office figures show that 80 per cent of G-Cloud sales were made to central government departments, while the rest were made by the wider public sector.
