The South American Automotive Supplier Report covers six vehicle-producing countries in the region: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela. Uruguay is the smallest nation in the six-nation group, in terms of population, but has the highest per capita GDP in the region.
These economic factors have also dictated investments in the automotive industry in the six countries, with carmakers focusing primarily on the two largest economies in the region, Brazil and Argentina. The other countries have managed to attract various levels of investments by carmakers and automotive suppliers, by targeting the vehicle export market. These exports are aimed primarily at the larger economies, Argentina and Brazil, and this creates a vicious circle of dependence, which is now negatively impacting the smaller vehicle-producing countries.
