Songkick and Andrew Bird Announce the Largest Crowdfunded Tour. Ever.
LONDON, October 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Songkick's New International Crowdfunding Platform, Detour, Helps Fans Bring Andrew Bird to Six Latin American Cities
Songkick Detour is delighted to announce a special collaboration with Andrew Bird for its first fan-funded tour of Latin America. 12 cities across 9 countries will compete for six show slots, making this the largest and most ambitious crowdfunded tour in history, both in attendance and anticipated fan participation.
By using Songkick's new crowdfunding platform Detour, Andrew Bird's Latin American fans will be given the power to decide which cities he performs in as well as aid in funding the concerts, starting today via the Songkick Detour site. Detour empowers fans to get directly involved in arranging live shows by their favourite artists and in the process establishes a deeper relationship between fans and artists. Detour has already successfully, and quietly, created crowdsourced shows for Hot Chip, Tycho, Tom Williams and the Boat, Motion City Soundtrack, and Slow Club, bringing their music to places they otherwise wouldn't have visited while on tour. This original fan-funding mechanism unlocks new possibilities around the world for untraditionally organised live experiences.
Songkick is delighted to be creating a landmark tour in collaboration with Andrew Bird. "Andrew is an amazing live performer. We are incredibly excited to enable fans from Bogota to Guadalajara to fully create a concert for him in their city," said Ian Hogarth, Songkick CEO. "All music fans know how frustrating it is to have no opportunities to see their favorite artists, and we created Detour to change that - to connect bands with their truest fans and vice versa."
"I've been wanting to go to these countries for years because I'm a fan of their rich musical traditions," added Andrew Bird. "Songkick Detour seems like a brilliant idea as it gives me a sense of connection to the people before I go there."
12 cities will take part:
● Bogota, Colombia
● Caracas, Venezuela
● Guadalajara, Mexico
● Lima, Peru
● Mexico City, Mexico
● Monterrey, Mexico
● Montevideo, Uruguay
● Panama City, Panama
● Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
● Santiago, Chile
● Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
● Sao Paulo, Brazil
Andrew Bird will perform in the first 6 cities that reach the pledge target of 250 fans. Once confirmed, the fan pledges from the winning cities convert into tickets, and any remaining allocation goes on general sale. Fans from cities who do not reach the target in time are not charged anything. The concerts will take place between the 17th and 28th of February 2013.
