Sloane & Sons to Partner With Centrepoint as Their 2016 Bed Month Charity
BURTON-ON-TRENT, England, January 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
The month of March has long been associated with National Bed Month, which is organised by The Sleep Council, aiming to raise awareness around the importance of a good night's sleep in order to aid health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, not everyone in the United Kingdom is fortunate enough to have access to a bed due to homelessness brought about by no fault of their own. Research conducted in 2013/14 by charity Centrepoint and the University of York found that 78,000 - 80,000 young people experience homelessness in a year in the UK.
Although people sleeping rough on the streets is the most common face of homelessness in the UK, there are also many 'hidden homeless' who are in temporary hostels, 'sofa surfing' or living in unsafe accommodation. Many young people who visit Centrepoint find themselves there due to family breakdown or because they have a mental health problem.
"I think we are all guilty at some point about ignoring or forgetting about homelessness, or associating homelessness with alcohol or drug addiction. This really isn't the case, and lots of the young people Centrepoint work with find themselves homeless and at risk through no fault of their own. Some of the people Centrepoint work with are victims of violence in the home, and as such become homeless because it isn't safe for them to be at home." Edward Sloane - Managing Director, Sloane & Sons
At Sloane & Sons we want to use National Bed Month to help raise much needed funds for Centrepoint, which allows the organisation to help with the housing, health and education of young people who find themselves homeless in the United Kingdom. Throughout March, Sloane & Sons are pledging to donate 5% of all sales made through their online retail portal www.bedmattress.co.uk, there is no need to opt in just place your order online as normal and Sloane & Son will present Centrepoint with a giant (or standard sized) cheque in April.
"Just reading some of the stories and case studies on Centrepoint's website confirmed that they were the right choice in choosing a charity to help in 2016, I look forward to potentially seeing first hand some of the fantastic work they do." Edward Sloane - Managing Director, Sloane & Sons.
