New firms top legal, financial and insurance advisers and bond arranger tables.
The IJGlobal 2015 full-year league tables, published Friday, show a major shake-up in the ranking of leading project finance law firms globally, amid a significant rise in worldwide deal count.
The top law firm for 2015, Clifford Chance, ranked only fourth in 2014 but has surged to the top of the year-end table off the back of an impressive 72 transactions concluded. The second ranked law firm for 2015 ranked only fifth in 2014, and this year was less than $2 billion in accredited value from the summit. Meanwhile, the third placed firm has had a meteoric rise from 13th in 2014.
In other tables, last year's top MLA, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has cemented its place at the pinnacle after closing 110 project finance transactions during 2015. Meanwhile, there are new companies at the top of the bond arranger, financial adviser and insurance adviser tables.
IJGlobal data shows that global deal count in 2015 rose by more than 10% yearly, although the total volume of transactions only increased slightly to $309.1 billion. Growth was driven primarily by activity in the North American and European markets, with greater investment in renewables and transport infrastructure making up for a decline in oil and gas deals. In contrast to the other two major global regions, in Asia Pacific the transport sector has failed to thrive over the past several years, and oil and gas volume fell dramatically.
Latin America posted a second consecutive on-year rise in volume, the fifth year out of the past seven it has grown. Deal count has also risen healthily, climbing 12% to 112 in 2015.
