The competition is arranged by Serendipity in collaboration with Industrin tar matchen and targets entrepreneur-led companies, from all industries with a unique innovation or business concept that can change, improve and develop their existing industries. The competing companies are evaluated upon the scalability of their products and services along with their potential to establish themselves on the global market.
- Serendipity Challenge has grown continuously every year, and for the first time, we invite our Nordic neighbours to participate in the competition. By doing so, we add an extra dimension of diversity and edge to the competition and to the tech arena, a venue space dedicated to be a meeting point between the competing startups and the established industry, says Omid Ekhlasi, head of Serendipity Challenge.
- Innovation is what moves Sweden forward. The aim of Serendipity Challenge is to give Swedish entrepreneurs an opportunity to grow their companies and contribute to the labour market and the welfare of tomorrow, says Magnus Huss, general director of IKEM and spokesperson for Industrin tar matchen.
The purpose of Serendipity Challenge is to elevate and showcase Sweden and the Nordics as a hotbed for the innovative companies of the future, as well as connecting entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, investors, politicians and collaboration partners.
- Last years' final of Serendipity Challenge showcased the impact of Almedalen as a platform for established corporations to connect with upcoming companies. With our delegation of 50 startups and more than 100 entrepreneurs, the opinion-makers of our time, it stood clear that Almedalen is a highly relevant arena for startups and growth companies to build strong business relationships. The amount of visitors to the tech arena, and the interest for the Serendipity Challenge during 2016 exceeded our expectations by far, says Omid Ekhlasi.
50 companies will be selected by a well renowned jury and will, in addition to competing in the Serendipity Challenge, exhibit their innovations at the tech arena in the city centre of Visby. The winners of each category will be awarded with a growth package, to a value of SEK 200 000, and a seat on the winner delegation trip to Silicon Valley, San Francisco later this autumn. The competition will also be followed by a conference with the theme "from startup to billion revenue company," held in Stockholm in autumn 2017.
