The hotel has borrowed its name from Johan Tobias Sergel (1740-1814), one of Sweden's most recognized artists, whose unique letters and sculptures are displayed in the lobby.
Between 1970 - 1983 the building lodged the swedish government while the Parliament House was being renovated. "Le Corbusier" suite, room 751, was during that period the office of the Swedish Prime Minister, Olof Palme.
In 1983 the property underwent extensive refurbishment and just 7 months after the Government moved back to the Parliament, H.R.H. Prince Bertil and H.R.H. Princess Lilian officially opened the doors of Sergel Plaza as part of Reso Hotels.
Since then various hotel brands, staff members and millions of guests have left their mark and unforgettable memories behind.
Sergel Plaza has always been and still is one of the most visited hotels in Stockholm.

Johann Hampl, Technical Manager is one among many of the team members who worked there for many years. "Good work environment where the staff is valued just as much as the guests is hard to find. If you find it, you stay. We constantly work to improve ourselves and always try to provide our guests with the best service," he says smiling.
In its effort to take on its social responsibility Sergel Plaza goes even further and works actively with three selected charity organisations: St:a Clara Church, the Foundation for Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital and SOS Children's Villages.
In 2011 Sergel Plaza decided to bring its history to the social media sphere.
