The global household insecticide market is forecast to post a revenue of $13.67 billion by the end of the period 2016-2020.
Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: With the rising awareness of the health issues that can be caused due to prolonged exposure to chemicals and odor used in household insecticides, most consumers have started preferring organic repellents. The demand for organic household insecticides is also increasing as the synthetic ones are not safe for children or women during pregnancy.
According to the report, new insecticides are being launched nowadays, which are both safer and much more effective in providing long-lasting relief from insects. Most of these products are also multifunctional, i.e., they can kill more than one type of insect instantly. A new cockroach gel has been launched in the market, which kills cockroaches within few hours of ingestion. The poisoned cockroaches also contaminate the nest, thereby killing other cockroaches
Further, the report states that the increasing immunity levels of vectors to insecticides stand to be a major challenge for the growth of the market. For instance, cockroaches are difficult to control with insecticides as they have become resistant to these commonly used compounds. Cockroaches in Germany have been found to be resistant to organochlorine, organophosphorus, pyrethroid, and carbamate insecticides. Periplaneta americana have become resistant to trichlorfon in China, and the large brown cockroaches are resistant to diazinon in the US.
