SLOUGH, England, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
£240,0000 funds raised for Save the Children
In its tenth consecutive year, RB, the leading global health and hygiene company and makers of products such as Nurofen and Dettol, have generated £240,000 in support of Save the Children, from the RB Charity Golf Day fundraiser event held in Wentworth, Surrey. This is the largest fundraising sum that has been raised at the annual event since it started in 2004.
In 2013, RB and Save the Children announced their new vision to help stop children dying needlessly from diarrhoea. Last year, RB committed £5.5million towards this ambition - and a significant amount of this money was raised by RB colleagues and partners. The partnership aim is to eliminate diarrhoea as a leading cause of death among children under five, working to remove diarrhoea as a major public health problem by 2020. Every year 800,000 children under five die needlessly from diarrhoea.[i] This means that everyday diarrhoea claims the lives of 2,160 children or 90 children every hour.
Rakesh Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer of RB: "Businesses like RB have a responsibility beyond results and our larger role is to do more for the world, which is why we believe strongly in our partnership with Save the Children. Our new partnership focus is truly ground-breaking as we recognise that we can't achieve our ambitions alone and a wide variety of stakeholders will need to be involved."
Justin Forsyth, Chief Executive of Save the Children said: "We greatly appreciate the partnership with RB as the funds raised in important events such as the RB Charity Golf Day helps us to implement programmes at a local level for the world's most vulnerable people. We know that children in the developing world are dying from preventable diseases, like diarrhoea."
Since the partnership began in 2003, RB has helped Save the Children reach over 1 million children.
