LAS VEGAS, July 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Rael, spiritual leader of the International Raelian Movement (IRM), says a report published by Nature Communications on July 26 proves that cloning is safe. The report established that 13 sheeps cloned from the same tissues used for cloning Dolly, the first cloned mammal, are all healthy and aging gracefully.
"Those who said all cloned animals suffer and die prematurely were wrong, and this is more proof of that," Rael said after reading the report. "And it will be the same for cloned human beings."
Brigitte Boisselier, PhD, spokesperson of the Raelian Movement and an expert in cloning and stem cell technology, said she completely agrees.
"Rael was the first and strongest advocate of human cloning as early as 1974, when he released the book now titled Intelligent Design," she said. "That book contains revelations made to Rael by extraterrestrial scientists who created all life on Earth. They told him that not only will we human beings be able to create life soon as well, but we will also be able to recreate life and have access to eternal life through an advanced form of cloning."
Boisselier said that in 1997, when political and religious leaders expressed their aversion to human cloning, Rael gathered the few scientists in favor of it and founded the company Clonaid.
"In another of his books, 'Yes to Human Cloning,' and in numerous conferences, Rael explained that human cloning is the only way to defeat death, which is the ultimate disease," she said. "But opponents of cloning were quick to use pseudoscientific data and claim that cloning is unsafe. They used Dolly's early death as evidence that cloning lead to premature aging."
But we know now that Dolly died for a very different reason, Boisselier pointed out.
"She died from a viral infection that also decimated other sheeps around her," she explained. "But 13 other sheeps made from the same original tissue as Dolly are all healthy and show no signs of premature aging. That's also true for thousands of other mammals cloned since 1997."
All possible reasons to fear cloning have already been eliminated, Boisselier said.
"Science is proving what Rael predicted: cloning is the only way to live eternally," she said. "Russian scientists and others are already working on the possibility of transferring one's personality into a computer. The next step will be to upload that personality back into a young cloned body. Rael's 1974 predictions aren't science fiction; they will come true within our lifetime if we eliminate fear and religious prejudice. It's time to lift the ban on human cloning that prevents access to existing technologies for many, and, more importantly, to finally cure death."
