LONDON, July 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
The second annual Polo for Heroes all-day event, which raises money for members of Britain's Armed Forces wounded while serving their country, takes place in St Albans, Herts., on Saturday 23 July 2011.
Last year's inaugural event raised nearly £18,000 for the cause - and this year it will once again take place at St Albans Polo Club, with polo matches involving local and Forces teams, including one captained by ex-World Middleweight boxing champ Steve Collins, plus a day of great food and entertainment.
The idea for Polo for Heroes was hatched early last year between rising culinary star and celebrated London restaurant Launceston Place head chef Tristan Welch, polo fanatic Clare Dingwall, and members of St Albans Polo Club when they all met at the highly successful Chefs for Heroes fundraising event.
And this year once again Tristan will be personally cooking for VIP guests, while in addition there will be a pop-up Gaucho Grill restaurant and bar for the picnic guests to also enjoy open until 6pm.
Doors open at 1pm, with the polo tournament taking place from 1.30pm, while an on-site auction will be followed by an evening of entertainment including a live 70s disco band in the VIP marquee.
Entrance on the day is £5, with spectators offered the choice of bringing a picnic or taking advantage of on-site catering. Alternatively, VIP guests can pay £100 per person, with up to 10 people on a table, to include a champagne reception, three-course gourmet dinner prepared by Tristan Welch and evening entertainment until midnight. The event is sponsored by Camino Real Polo Country Club in Argentina.
Tristan said: "It's a great day out for all the family, especially if you've never witnessed the excitement of a polo tournament.
"We had a great time last year and managed to raise a fantastic amount of money for such a worthy charity - this year we hope to do even better."
