Otis Celebrates 100 Years of Operation in Germany

Otis Elevator Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), congratulates Otis Germany on 100 years of operation. Today, Otis Germany is one of the leading high-tech companies in Berlin, and develops energy-saving components for Otis elevators and escalators worldwide in its own research and production centers. In addition, Otis Germany provides comprehensive maintenance, repair and modernization services through an extensive network of more than 1,100 service technicians and 100 locations.

As part of the company's global commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, The Way to Green(TM), Otis will commemorate its 100th anniversary in Germany by planting 100 trees outside its offices in Berlin and throughout the district of Reinickendorf. Otis Germany currently employs over 2,600 people and maintains over 96,000 elevators and escalators. In 2009, the company posted revenues of more than 450 million Euros.

Otis Germany's Berlin factory manufactures the ReGen(TM) drives that enhance the efficiency of Otis' Gen2(R) elevators, reducing energy consumption up to 75 percent. Under the prestigious European VDI 4707 standards, which assess elevator energy performance, the combined energy efficiency rating across the full range of Gen2 systems with standard configurations is class A, the highest rating possible. Verein Deutscher Ingenieure VDI (The Association of German Engineers) established its 4707 standards to assess elevator energy performance.

Many of Germany's landmark buildings include Otis elevators and escalators. Otis was also selected to provide 20 elevators, including ten Gen2 elevators, to the Zoofenster building in Berlin, which will stand 120 meters tall when completed.
