OpenTable announces the UK's al fresco favourites

-- Diners' Choice awards reveal the Top 50 restaurants for outdoor dining

LONDON, July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- We might not have the most reliable climate, but Brits aren't likely to let a little rain get in the way of enjoying some al fresco action this summer! OpenTable is delighted to release The 2014 Diners' Choice award winners for the Top 50 outdoor dining restaurants in the UK.

Showcasing restaurants located in some of the most picturesque corners of the country, the complete list includes winners across the UK and an eclectic mix of cuisines. The Southeast fared particularly well with 21 winning restaurants in London, five in Kent and three apiece in Hampshire and Berkshire.  British cuisine dominates the list representing over half of the top 50 venues. European, Italian, barbecue and gastropub fare is also a favourite of British diners for al fresco eating.

"From seaside seating and sidewalk terraces to sublime river-front views, these winning restaurants have created some of the country's most coveted al fresco dining experiences," said Lucy Taylor, head of restaurant relations UK,  OpenTable.

The 21 London winners include some of the capital's best-loved riverside restaurants, rooftop terraces and gastropub gardens. Restaurants on the water proved popular, with Thames-side venues like Le Pont de la Tour, Butlers Wharf Chop House and The Perkin Reveller all making the list. Neighbourhood favourites including Ostuni, an Italian eatery dedicated to the cuisine of Puglia, Petersham Nurseries cafe at an internationally prized garden centre, and Shrimpy's, located at an old petrol station in King's Cross also made the cut.

The Diners' Choice Awards for the Top 50 Outdoor Dining Restaurants in the UK are generated from more than 325,000 restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between 1 May, 2013, and 30 April, 2014. All restaurants with a minimum number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant's average rating in the outdoor eating category along with a minimum overall rating.
