TULSA, Oklahoma, June 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Omni Air International (Omni) receives US Department of Defense (DOD) Commercial Airlift Review Board (CARB) approval to provide B777-200ER passenger airlift services for the DOD. Omni is the first US registered non-scheduled airline to operate the B777-200ER aircraft in passenger service. A second aircraft will be added to the company's certificate in mid July.
"Omni first received CARB approval to transport passengers in February 1999, and has since moved over 5 million military troops in support of scheduled, contingency, exercise, and R and R mission requirements," said Jeff Crippen, Omni's President and CEO. "The DOD's Commercial Airlift Division (CAD) is mandated by public law and DOD directive to continuously monitor and oversee commercial air carriers that perform this business for the DOD. The CAD's survey and analysis office accomplishes this responsibility through regular on-site surveys, tabletop performance evaluations, periodic ramp inspections and cockpit observations. Omni is proud to have successfully undergone numerous evaluations and seven biennial capability surveys."
"Omni continues to be a leading player in the movement of DOD passengers. The addition of the B777-200ER to our fleet of B767-300ER and B757-200ER aircraft builds on our growing fleet of modern aircraft," said Trisha Frank, Omni's Senior Director of Government Programs. "When U.S. Transportation Command leadership challenged the Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) carriers to step up to the plate and offer more modern, fuel efficient aircraft, Omni was proud to be the first charter carrier to answer the call with the B777. We are excited to provide our men and women in uniform with this best in class aircraft."
Omni is in its 19th year as a successful non-scheduled airline with global operating experience. Omni has operated to more than 75 countries, with 60,000 flights totaling more than 300,000 flight hours with a fleet of B767-300, B757-200, and DC10-30 extended range aircraft. Its customers include both US and foreign governments and commercial airlines and other entities with a need to move passengers around the globe.
Omni, based in Tulsa, OK, is an FAA 121 certificated, non-scheduled airline. Founded in 1993, Omni continues to build on its successful track record as a leader in the airline industry providing modern fuel efficient aircraft supported by a team of aviation professionals with a "Can Do" spirit.
