NW Systems' RemoteManager Deployed for Rebuilding of Torched Tottenham Allied Carpets Outlet

NW Systems Group's RemoteManager end-to-end video monitoring solution has been selected by the construction company Allenbuild Ltd to provide high quality live and recorded video images of the redevelopment of the old Allied Carpets building at 638 Tottenham High Road, London which sits in a conservation area by virtue of this road being built on top of the old Roman road called Ermine Street.

Work recently began to rebuild the four-storey retail and social housing site, made famous when the images of its burning were beamed across the world on the night of the 7^th August 2011 at the start of the London riots.  Allenbuild was commissioned to rebuild the 2,500 square feet retail space and 26 flats above. A new Carpet Right store will be opened on this site before the end of this year.

RemoteManager's high resolution video monitoring service will cover the redevelopment of the iconic site which will take up to 11 months. NW Systems has used a Mobotix M24M high resolution 3 Mega Pixel surveillance camera fitted with a 90 degree lens. The camera has been fitted on a gantry attached to a scaffold pole set some 30 feet above the construction site's offices. Captured images and live video will be viewable from Allenbuild's website within the next few weeks. A second camera may be fitted inside the building once it has been constructed.

The camera is networked using a secure high speed 3G cellular Broadband connection to the internet. The camera also has local storage capacity on in-built MicroSD cards providing an element of redundancy for rare occasions where connectivity is lost.

NW Systems' RemoteManager service will provide a high resolution time lapse video based on images recorded over the course of each phase of construction project. Allenbuild will provide DVD time lapse recordings of the redevelopment to stakeholders including former residents, many of whom lost everything in the fire. Most will be re-housed as soon as construction and fit out of the new building is completed before the end of 2013.

The new building will be a significant improvement on the old. Although the 1930s facade will be restored the materials used in the building of the frontage will be improved to prevent over heating in the flats above the store during the summer. The new building will also have comprehensive disabled access, as well as higher specification ventilation, insulation and building management systems.

As well as being a wealthy man, the Conservative peer has a reputation as a social entrepreneur. He sponsors the Harris Foundation, which runs 13 academy schools in the London area.

The top floor of the same building, meanwhile, was run on a long lease by the Metropolitan Housing Partnership (MHP), a non-profit charity.

This floor was subdivided into 26 affordable home ownership properties - every one of which was destroyed within minutes as the blaze raged on 7^th August 2011. All that those living on the top floor could do was run for their lives.
