The Protein Project launched in December 2012, offering the chance for three average guys to take on a 12 week challenge to change their lives and bodies. Oliver beat competition from the two other finalists (James Goddard and David Rielly) to win £5,000 in cash and become the newest ambassador for the UK's leading sports nutrition brand, Maximuscle.
Oliver was voted winner of the Protein Project following a decision made by a four person panel consisting of; TV presenter, Andi Peters, leading personal trainer, Charlotte Ord, England Rugby captain, Chris Robsaw and media fitness expert, John Lipsey. A Facebook poll which generated over 5,000 votes for all of the competitors also counted as a vote.
Oliver said: "This has been an incredible journey and I'm delighted to have been voted the winner. A lot of men want to be fitter, leaner, stronger and faster but struggle to find time to fit going to the gym and getting the right nutrition around existing commitments. I hope that by watching the progress I've made they will see that with the right attitude, advice and nutritional products, that anybody can get the results they want."
Former four-time world champion British boxer and Maximuscle ambassador Amir Khan said: "All three finalists have been through a schedule that would bring an international athlete to their knees. Comparing their before and after photographs and fitness test results make me, and all of those involved in the Protein Project, so proud of their achievements. The Protein Project proves that anyone can reach their fitness goals with hard work and the right nutritional advice."
James O'Shea, Marketing Director of Maximuscle, said: "There is a common misconception about sports nutrition products with people assuming they are just for elite athletes and bodybuilders not understanding how, when or where to take protein as part of a healthy diet. The truth is that protein plays a big part in helping support any active lifestyle and can make a big difference to those wanting to improve their sporting performance or change body shape. The Protein Project set out to prove the difference protein can make and we hope everyone can see the results of our three guys and start their own Protein Project."
The Protein Project has been Maximuscle's way of tackling the problem of time vs. healthy-lifestyle head-on to overcome the common myths that surround protein and show the difference that protein can make to the everyday person. The campaign has demonstrated how Maximuscle products can help you achieve your goals by providing convenient, tasty solutions to help you hit your daily protein requirements.
Oliver continues: "While the physical changes are clear to see, I've also changed on the inside in terms of my approach to work, socialising and relaxing. I feel fitter and healthier and more able to perform at my sport. The nutritional education I've received has helped me understand how and when my body needs protein and how this impacts what I eat and when. Although the Protein Project has finished, this is definitely only the start for me and I'm looking forward to being part of the team at Maximuscle."
