New Social Trip Planner CreateTrips Launched in New Zealand

Starting from December 5, 2013, New Zealand iPhone users are able to add some extra edge to their travel plans. CreateTrips, a Finnish startup company, promises to change the way trips are made today. Following the New Zealand launch, CreateTrips app will go global later this year.

The application is a combined travel guide, social trip planner and offline map. Available free-of-charge (in-app purchases available) from App Store, CreateTrips features a strong social element. The application user can select a destination and start planning the trip - while being able to ask others to join in.

Juha-Petteri Kukkonen, the founder of CreateTrips, says that the new application is very much about bringing people together.

"You can plan your trip with friends, family or colleagues - or your rugby teammates," he says.  Part of the fun is adding new venues to the travel plan and discussing them online. Through the app, the user is able to access a variety of interesting info ranging from photos to recommendations via services such as Foursquare and Instagram.

Once in the travel destination, CreateTrips works also offline - so there is no need to worry about expansive data roaming charges. According to Kukkonen, the test phase of the app was success. "The average user used the application about six times before the trip. When in destination, the average user accessed the app about three times a day."

During the trip, the application makes it easy to find the favorite restaurant or the nightclub - or check out the 'must-see' sights. "Smartphones enable smart travel - and your trip becomes much more enjoyable. Thanks to our extremely accurate offline map, for instance, you will never get lost again," Kukkonen promises.  

The app utilizes Facebook in order to get the word out of the coming trip. Via social media, CreateTrips is looking to revolutionize the way trips are planned and made.

"We have plenty of social media, but now is the time for social travel."
