New Research Reveals that Most Brits Spend Less than 30 Minutes Eating Lunch - and that's Likely to be Spent at their Desks.
LONDON, May 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
New research released has found that over half of us simply do not have the time to dedicate a full hour to our lunch break, with 61% of Brits confessing to taking 30 minutes or less of the traditional lunch hour. Furthermore, a shocking 41% of the British public admit to regularly eating lunch at their desks.
In the survey conducted by Whole Earth, research has highlighted that, surprisingly, the majority of people in the UK take a packed lunch to work at least once a week, knowing a homemade lunch is the healthier option, as opposed to a bought lunch.
Interestingly the sandwich - possibly the most iconic British culinary invention, continues to be the lunchtime meal of choice for most Brits, with 80% of the UK public opting for the traditional sandwich or wrap when given the choice.
Survey, commissioned by Whole Earth, highlights:
- Over 80% would opt for a sandwich for lunch
- 61% take 30 mins or less for their lunch break
- 41% regularly eat lunch at their desk
- Almost 30% bring their own lunch to work every day
- Just under 7% of poll participants claimed they didn't take a lunch break whatsoever
To celebrate British Sandwich Week renowned food developer, blogger and author of '101 Sandwiches', Helen Graves, has created a sandwich packed with the necessary natural ingredients to get us through the day.
"My inspiration for the Natural Born Filler sandwich came from the current trend for South East Asian street food where peanuts are widely used, for example in Malaysian satay sauce, or Pad Thai.
The Vietnamese Banh Mi is a bright, colourful sandwich with contrasting textures and flavours. The combination of fresh herbs, vegetables, fruit and Whole Earth peanut butter with sunflower, pumpkin and flax seeds mean it's so satisfying, the fact that it's healthy is just a bonus."
Nutrition Consultant Charlotte Stirling-Reed on trying the new sandwich, commenting; "It's packed full of fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The different vegetables and herbs all contribute to your 5 a day and the peanut butter filling helps provide a good nutritional balance."
