Did you know there is an entirely new data network rolling out across the UK?
The Orion Data Network is a UK designed and built solution from New Forest Communications (NFC Group). Why does the UK need another data network? Well, for a start, using this network is very low cost. In fact, for the most part, using the Orion Data Network is entirely free for small organisations. To use the network, you just need some hardware which is mostly plug and play as well as being very inexpensive. There is also some free software to get users up and running quickly. The solutions are available today and since any user can add their own base station (called an Orion Gateway) into the network, local coverage is guaranteed. Coverage can range anywhere from half a mile up to thirteen miles depending on the surrounding environment.

Devices that send data over the network are called 'Orion tags'. Tags are tiny and with a small battery can provide real time information for years on a single charge (depending on battery size) reporting every two minutes when stationary or every thirty seconds when in motion. Tags also provide switched inputs for use as signalling devices and can adapt to a multitude of applications.
Tags can be fitted to almost anything, from Rhinos - check out Puppies to Protectors on Indiegogo here - through to pieces of plant and machinery. Someone one once said that it would be worth tracking everything if it were cheap enough. Well, now it is!
