In 2016, 80% of the OEMs are expected to finalize their automation technology roadmaps. This will lead to strong growth in the driver assistance component market and open avenues for new business models to enter the automotive ecosystem. With improved testing environments and sensing capabilities, the focus will turn towards improving data acquisition and validation capabilities. In future, the car will incorporate a set of static data which will constantly be cross-checked with the data devices such as cameras add to the system. The industry is now at the cusp of a convergence between various technology programs, with a variety of new business opportunities evolving from the emergence of aspects such as new mobility services and auto insurance.

The industry faces numerous challenges from a technology perspective in terms of finding the ideal sensing suite that provides vision capabilities in multiple driving conditions at a reasonable price proposition. Similarly, the software and validation capabilities of today are too cost prohibitive to sustain a complex autonomous driving scenario. Besides this, the largest challenge to autonomous driving is posed by the regulatory frameworks that govern these products. They are crucial to the success of deployment of autonomous driving in the market in future. With the US and the EU increasing the amount of up to date autonomous test beds this issue is heading in the direction of facilitating the adaption of autonomous vehicles.
