Wirecard AG is redefining smartphone payments: Wirecard will showcase an HCE app for mobile payment at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The application is based on the new Wirecard payment brand, boon, which will be launched on the market in summer 2015. Congress visitors can download the showcase app with a selection of functions to their own smartphone. As a digital payment solution for Android smartphones, boon will in future combine innovative payment functions, loyalty points and couponing as well as a range of personal finance services. The app communicates with point of sale terminals via near field communication (NFC). Contactless payment will also be possible on smartphones when mobile data or Wi-Fi is deactivated.
Variety is key in Wirecard's marketing strategy: the boon payment app will be offered as a co-branding solution in collaboration with sales and cooperation partners. In this way, Wirecard's mobile payment solution will provide telecommunications providers, banks and retailers with direct access to markets. This solution will be available quickly through the host card emulation (HCE) software technology. HCE is now supported by all Android-powered devices from version 4.4 onward.
