Movistar Argentina Selects Ericsson Radio System to Transform Mobile Network
Three-year radio access network transformation deal based on Ericsson Radio System gets underway in the second half of 2018
Ericsson will expand its radio offerings to Movistar Argentina to enhance the operator's mobile broadband coverage in the country and enhance user experience
Deal provides the foundation for Movistar Argentina to develop future 5G and IoT opportunities
WASHINGTON, June 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Movistar Argentina has selected Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) to transform its Radio Access Network (RAN) over a three-year period based on Ericsson Radio System. In addition to expanded network coverage, the deal will provide customers of Movistar Argentina with more rewarding mobile broadband experiences.
The modernization gets underway this year, with a partial network upgrade to be completed in 2021. The scope covers improvements to radio access network capacity and coverage as well as an OSS migration to Ericsson Network Manager.
In addition to improvements in mobile broadband coverage and quality, the deal also enables Movistar Argentina to start its journey towards 5G and IoT through the 5G-evolution capabilities of Ericsson Radio System. Finally, this modernization initiative supports the implementation of energy-efficient networks that will reduce consumption and carbon emissions.

All Ericsson Radio System portfolio products supplied to Movistar Argentina will be able to run 5G New Radio (NR). This capability will be achieved through a remote software installation.
